Hey friends! Spring is right around the corner, and I'm so enjoying exploring all of the books this season has to offer. March has an abundance of holidays and celebrations to discuss with your kiddos. Here are some of my favorites, including FREE stories on Epic! Check back throughout the month for an extended explanation of Holi activities!

St. Patrick's Day

How to Trap a Leprechaun by Sue Fliess

A rhythmic story of the leprechaun that got away despite the kids' best effort to catch him. Full of bright and fun illustrations, and a great visual guide to building leprechaun traps!

How to Catch a Leprechaun by Adam Wallace

Another way to explore catching a leprechaun. This story gives detailed illustrations of failed and completely inventive traps. A very funny read full of rhyme!

Passover:

Celebrate Passover by Deborah Heiligman

This jam packed informational text speaks on everything "Passover." It includes everything from foods, actual recipes, and traditions from this week long Jewish celebration.

Pinterest has some really great simple snacks with Matzah that you can bring in for your class to try, like Matzah pizza.

Daylight Savings:

Sun! One in a Billion by Stacy McAnulty

Okay so this picture book doesn't reeaally have anything to do with Daylight Savings Time... outside of being all about the Sun. The main character, the sun, is so confidently charismatic. My students so enjoyed reading through this story filled to the brim with facts about our Sun!

Holi:

Festival of Colors

Dive straight into the Indian spring festival of Holi with this book. This festival respresents a start of new beginnings, as well as good over evil. Students can explore the relationships between flowers and colors right before the explosion of joy and colors commense!

Who Likes Rain By Wong Herbert Yee

I love this story's integration of the importance (and fun) of rain through rhyme. Discover this young girl's love of rain, as well as many animals who experience the plip, plip, plop of the rain drops, too!

The Boy Who Didn't Believe in Spring by Lucille Clifton

I adore this story of two young boys in the city looking for spring. King Shabazz does not believe in Spring, even though he is always hearing grown ups saying things like "spring is right around the corner." He and Tony Polito search around for spring, and King begins to notice that his small discoveries nudge him towards a belief in the spring season.
